I'm Michael Washecka — a finance and treasury executive with 25 years of institutional experience, now working with a select group of clients who need senior financial thinking without a full-time hire. Whether you're a founder who has outgrown your bookkeeper or an investment firm that needs interim treasury or FP&A support, I bring the expertise — and none of the overhead.

Senior Financial Leadership. Without the Full-Time Commitment

Why Washecka Advisory?

Most businesses reach a point where financial decisions get complicated — but not complicated enough to justify a full-time CFO. That's exactly the gap I fill.

I spent 13 years at The Carlyle Group running treasury and financial operations for a $30 billion real estate platform, and 12 years before that building the FP&A function at XM Satellite Radio from the ground up. I've managed billions in credit facilities, built financial infrastructure from scratch twice, and advised senior leadership at some of the most sophisticated financial institutions in the country.

Now I bring that same thinking to a select group of clients — on your terms, at a fraction of the cost of a full-time hire.

Who I Work With

Investment Firms & Institutional Clients

Private equity firms, real estate platforms, family offices, and investment managers that need senior interim or project-based support — treasury buildouts, liquidity management, FP&A, or financial operations leadership during periods of growth or transition.

Founder-Led & Owner-Operated Businesses

Successful regional firms — architects, builders, contractors, designers, and other owner-operated businesses — that have outgrown their bookkeeper but aren't ready for a full-time CFO. I serve as the senior financial partner who helps owners make smarter decisions, build stronger processes, and focus on growing their business.

What I Do

Treasury & Cash Management Cash flow forecasting, liquidity management, banking relationships, credit facilities, debt compliance, and investment policy. From daily cash positioning to multi-billion dollar credit facilities — I've managed treasury at institutional scale and can build the right infrastructure for your business.

FP&A & Financial Planning Budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning, and driver-based financial models. I've built FP&A functions from scratch at both startup and enterprise scale and can bring that same discipline to your business without the overhead of a full finance team.

Ongoing Financial Oversight & Operations For founder-led businesses that want a senior financial presence without the full-time hire, I can serve as your part-time head of finance on a retainer basis — overseeing day-to-day financial operations, managing key processes like invoicing, cash flow, and vendor payments, reviewing financials, and giving you a trusted resource to call when financial decisions need senior judgment. The goal is simple: free you to focus on running and growing your business while I make sure the financial side runs cleanly behind you.

Financial Operations & Process Improvement Internal controls, payment workflows, approval frameworks, and systems implementation. I've designed and built both commercial and custom financial systems to eliminate manual processes and build infrastructure that scales.

Strategic Financial Advisory A senior financial sounding board for owners and executives — evaluating opportunities, optimizing capital structure, preparing for financing, and translating complex financial information into clear decisions.

Interim & Project-Based Engagements Available for interim Treasurer, VP Finance, or Head of Financial Operations roles at investment firms and institutional clients on a project or interim basis.

About Michael Washecka

I'm a finance and treasury executive with 25 years of experience building, fixing, and scaling finance functions across some of the most complex organizations in the country.

I spent 13 years at The Carlyle Group as Head of Treasury, Portfolio Management, and Financial Operations for a $30 billion U.S. real estate platform — managing liquidity across hundreds of entities, negotiating and overseeing multi-billion dollar credit facilities, building treasury infrastructure from the ground up, and advising senior leadership on capital strategy and financial risk. I led a team of direct reports while directing financial analysis across 70+ investment professionals.

Before Carlyle, I spent 12 years at XM Satellite Radio as one of the first finance hires — building the FP&A function, long-range planning model, and financial infrastructure from scratch as the company grew from a pre-revenue startup to 20 million subscribers and $3 billion in revenue. I was a key financial leader through a major recapitalization and the landmark merger with Sirius.

I began my career at KPMG in audit, hold an accounting degree from Virginia Tech, and was a licensed CPA early in my career.

I'm based in Arlington, Virginia and work with clients on a flexible basis — retainer, project, or interim engagement depending on what the situation calls for.

Let's Work Together

I work with a small number of clients at a time — which means every engagement gets my full attention. If you're wondering whether what I do might be useful for your situation, the best next step is a straightforward conversation. No pitch, no pressure.
